Although major Korean manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix have production capacity not in Taiwan, they have also suspended quotations simultaneously. Taiwanese module manufacturer ADATA and others have announced follow-up suspensions of quotations after hearing the news.
According to market legal person surveys, Taiwan accounts for as much as 20% of global DRAM. Currently, due to sufficient supply in the spot market, the impact is limited, but it will help storage original manufacturers improve the bargaining power of DRAM original manufacturers in the second quarter.
In response to this news, Micron Taiwan pointed out that it has confirmed that all employees are safe. The impact on production operations in Taiwan and the local supply chain is still being assessed, and the company will continue to communicate with customers about the supply situation; however, the company has not officially responded to the suspension of quotations.
In addition, Samsung and SK Hynix also followed suit and stopped quoting. Although the two major suppliers do not have DRAM production in Taiwan, they also hope to wait and see the market outlook before taking action.
On the other hand, the demand for DRAM and NAND Flash in the storage spot market has been weak for several weeks. Therefore, although there was an earthquake, which caused the shutdown of Micron and Nanya, the spot supply is still sufficient and the spot price has not yet occurred. Violent fluctuations, the overall trend is limited to a slight increase, and buying momentum is still light.
